Advent Meditation

What an unimaginable year we have just completed! Who could have dreamed we would have seen what we have seen? Civilization seems to be unraveling at our very feet. And, it may not seem that we have much to celebrate this year. But, the Mystery of the Incarnation is the strong rebuke to our anxiety and the foundation of our hope. We do well to recall Paul's words to the Colossians:

It pleased God to make absolute fullness reside in him and, by means of him, to reconcile everything in his person, everything, I say, both on earth and in the heavens, making peace through the blood of his cross.
If Jesus is the Lord of Heaven and Earth, and our redeemerthe first fruits of those who have fallen asleep, then all of this present madness will also be redeemed, reconciled, forgiven. That is worth our celebration and our longing.

Long is our Winter,
Dark is our night.
Oh, come, set us free.
Oh, saving Light!
